School Board Members
Background
The School Board of Directors is responsible for the governance operations of the school and is the entity that has legal responsibility for the school. The School Board is made up of 9 voting members: 4 Alliance members; 1 outside member; 2 teacher members and 2 parent members recommended by the principal.
Roles and Responsibilities
· As a voting member of the school board, Board member responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
o Authorizing charter amendments and resolutions
o Monitoring school compliance
o Approving Board membership
o Approving and monitoring school budgets
o Approving long-range goals and annual objectives
o Monitoring the health and safety of the school and its staff and students
o Ensuring proper use and maintenance of facilities and resources
o Voicing issues or concerns that positively impact the school
· Board members must commit to attending all four of the annual Board meetings, which have already been scheduled for the 2015-16 school-year. Please note that if a Board member cannot attend a meeting on one or more of the days listed below, he or she cannot serve on the Board.
o The four 2015-16 meetings will be held for a half hour between 8am-4pmon the following dates:
1. September 24 or 25
2. December 3 or 4
3. February 25 or 26
4. June 2 or 3
o Board members are also expected to review meeting materials prior to each Board meeting.
· Prior to participating in the first Board meeting of the year listed above, every Board member must complete Brown Act Training, as required by California law.
· Teacher and parent Board members are also expected to participate on the School Coordinating Council, which meets monthly, in order to ensure continuity across the two bodies.
