Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2011-12 School Year!

I am proud to be the founding principal of Richard Merkin Middle School (RMMS). As we begin our seventh year as s school community, we are more committed than ever to ensuring the success of every student! RMMS provides students with an extraordinary education, within a safe, supportive and positive learning environment. We begin the year by renewing our mission to prepare 100% of our students for college graduation. We will continue our relentless pursuit to raise student achievement with focus on learning, collaboration, and results!

We strive to foster critical thinkers who are prepared to be responsible, productive, and tolerant citizens within a changing world.  We challenge, motivate, and inspire students through a rigorous curriculum infused with the arts and technology. Our students are empowered to realize their greatest potential in the classroom, and outside the classroom through athletics, leadership, and visual and performing arts. Above all, we are actively engaged in providing students with the tools they need to be successful.

We are extremely excited to announce the opening of the Patricia and Brian Reynold’s Library in the fall of 2011. Our library will give our students access to high quality literature, research materials, and technology. Building a Community of Readers is our theme this year, as we enthusiastically launch the Trailblazers Read initiative with the goal of instilling a life-long love of reading in every student!

We are fortunate to maintain strong partnerships and thank the following individuals and groups for their continued support of our school: Alliance for College Ready Public Schools, Dr. Richard Merkin, Patricia and Brian Reynolds, Access Books, After School All Stars, Fulfillment Fund, 24th Street Theater, Los Angeles Team Mentoring, and ECCLA. Our partners are committed to the success and college-aspirations of our students. Most importantly, we value the daily contributions of our parent community, who serve as true partners in their child’s education.

I maintain an open door policy, so please accept my invitation to become involved in our school, discuss your ideas with me, and experience the many great accomplishments of our exceptional students.

GO TRAILBLAZERS!
